“If I have learned anything in this long life of mine, it is this: In love we find out who we want to be in war we find out who we are. This was one of those novels that you don’t want to end, but at the same time you need to know how it ends. I even had to buy more tissues! I was torn towards the end of the novel, I didn’t want the book to end but I wanted to know how it all ended for these two incredibly heroic sisters who were doing their best to survive and resist the war in Occupied France. This gut-wrenching work of historical fiction, inspired by true stories, had me holding my breath in chapters of imminent danger, biting my fingers with anxiety in other parts.

And I know that no matter how hard I may want to try, my review (I will not be revealing spoilers, so read on if you want to see why you MUST read this book!), my words will not come anywhere close to giving this book justice. I’m a complete and utter emotional wreck as I type this review. Honestly, I think this book has truly and wholly devastated me…Truly. To say that I’ve been left completely speechless at the INCREDIBLE story I have just read would be an understatement.

This novel has completely SHATTERED my heart into a thousand pieces.

No, that’s a lie – I have a RIVER of tears gushing down my face, I’m literally in a bathtub of tears. I have just finished reading Kristin Hannah’s book, ‘The Nightingale’ and honestly, I’m CRYING.
